Assistant Head of Faculty - Visual Arts (1MU & 1MMA))
Long Bay College is a co-educational secondary school located in a peaceful location near Long Bay Beach and the new Long Bay Village. The school opened in 1975 and has approximately 1800 students with 150 teaching and support staff combined.
We seek an experienced Visual
Arts teacher with leadership strengths to join our well-resourced, supportive,
and collaborative team. As Assistant Head of Faculty you will carry out
responsibilities as delegated by the Head of Faculty for the successful running
of Visual Arts at Long Bay College. Key responsibilities are likely to include
oversight for Junior Visual Arts programmes and/or Art History (as negotiated).
This role will attract 1MU and 1MMA.
Our junior programmes include
Art and Digital Art which aim to foster creative thinking, understanding of art
conventions, and skill acquisition in a wide range of media. Supporting
students to developing visual literacy, conceptual thinking and a willingness
to experiment also underpins these programmes. Scaffolds into our senior NCEA
subjects of Level 1 Art/Digital Art, and Level 1 & 2 Design, Painting,
Photography and Art History are strategic considerations to ensure future
success of our ākonga up to Scholarship level. We place a strong emphasis on
high academic achievement, secured by strong collective practice.
Our ideal candidate will have
strengths as a classroom teacher and curriculum designer. They will be a leader
with the capability to drive the professional growth of the wider team
individually and collectively, directly supporting the Head of Faculty and
wider school direction.
Candidates should place a
high value on knowledge rich approaches and cognitive science considerate
pedagogy. A commitment to our culture of care, and a desire to contribute to
the academic and co-curricular success of our ākonga is essential.
This is a full-time, permanent position to commence in term 1 2025.

The terms and conditions, including base salary, for this position is set by the Secondary Teachers' Collective Agreement. The base salary for trained and unregistered teachers will range from $59,027 to $99,216, depending on applicant's qualifications and experience. An individual's actual base salary will be established by a salary assessment once a role is confirmed.
